Why should your well be any different?

Following are some simple guidelines to follow that will keep your well safe and in good working order.

1. Runoff water from various sources can erode the ground around the well head and grout seal, thus allowing water to migrate down the side of the casing. This can be a contamination hazard and can also create a problem with sand and debris when pumping.

Runoff water can also enter equipment culverts/vaults causing significant damage to the equipment.

  • A. Don’t plant gardens or flowerbeds near or around the  well head. Insure all sprinkler water is diverted away from the well and equipment area.
  • B. Insure that roof runoff is diverted away from well and equipment area.
  • C. Insure that runoff is diverted in order to keep any    standing water from accumulating around well and equipment.
  • D. Check your well head periodically for any soil erosion and take steps to correct as soon as possible.

2. Never use household chemicals, pesticides or fertilizers around the well or equipment area.

3. Keep children and pets away from the well and equipment area.

4. Animals pens and dog runs should never be placed around or near the well or equipment area. Never tie an animal to the well head. This is an extreme contamination hazard.

5. Equipment locations should be kept clear of accumulating debris, boxes and other belongings, rodents, reptiles and bugs.

6. Take all necessary steps to insure that vehicle traffic cannot come close to your well or equipment. Getting hit or ran over by a vehicle can cause significant damage and even destroy the well. If your well is hit, take pictures and call your insurance agent after you have contacted Murray Drilling Company (if you know who hit it, get something in writing acknowledging doing so).

7. Don’t make adjustments to any setting in your system without calling first. Contrary to what old Uncle Joe says, it is not necessary to drain your pressure tank or crank your pressure switch up as high as it can go. The air charge and switch setting work in unison and getting the system out of balance can wreak havoc with your system and could even cause severe damage.

If you feel that the pressure is not adequate give us a call, often times there are other reasons for the issue.

8. Check for leaks, rodent infestations and washouts on a regular basis.

See the Troubleshooting Tips page for more information if you are experiencing problems.
